DEFORD released sodium-ion high power & deep cycle battery systems for RVs.
In early April 2026, DEFORD released 3 sodium-ion high power & deep-cycle battery systems for RVs, which further expanded the application of sodium-ion batteries in the RV industry.
The RV deep-cycle battery market is currently dominated by lead-acid batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries. Lead-acid batteries, as traditional RV batteries, have very obvious advantages and disadvantages, and in recent years they have gradually been replaced by lithium iron phosphate batteries. The advantages of lithium iron phosphate batteries are long lifespan and low maintenance requirements; their disadvantages are low discharge efficiency at low temperatures and, without the assistance of a heating device, they do not support low-temperature charging.
Compared to lithium iron phosphate batteries, sodium-ion batteries have a wider charge and discharge temperature range. Sodium-ion batteries exhibit significantly better low-temperature charge and discharge performance than lithium iron phosphate batteries. Sodium-ion batteries also boast an exceptionally long lifespan and extremely low maintenance requirements; their low-temperature discharge efficiency is also far superior to that of lithium iron phosphate batteries. Furthermore, sodium-ion batteries can support slow charging at low temperatures without the need for heating devices.
Sodium-ion batteries are significantly higher charge, or discharge rates than lithium iron phosphate batteries. At room temperature, sodium-ion batteries support continuous 2C/3C fast charging, requiring only 20-30 minutes to fully charge. Furthermore, they have excellent discharge rate performance, with a maximum continuous discharge rate of up to 15C. Under continuous 2C/3C discharge conditions, the cell temperature rise is only 15-20℃. For example, an individual 12V 100Ah sodium-ion RV battery can power a 3kW inverter without any interruption.
Sodium-ion batteries are unaffected by over-discharge. Even if a sodium-ion battery is discharged to 0V and left uncharged for 6-12 months, its performance degradation is negligible. As a deep-cycle battery for RVs, this greatly reduces its maintenance requirements. Compared to lead-acid or lithium iron phosphate batteries, sodium-ion batteries have a significant advantage in long-term storage.
